my magazine

as you can see it was pretty plain to begin with and i used green and blue from the target audience research.

as you can now see, I have changed the house style colours in order to create a better vibe aswell as it looking better and more attractive. I have The Boy's whole body showing because i thought that this looked more intising to go with the school magazine. I have also made the MastHead more attractive and vibrant.

I have now added more writing including the contents in my magazine and i have also zoomed in on The Boy to give a greater affect. I added a Girl onto the front cover so that it doesn't attract just one gender and so that it is a mutual magazine.
I have now made a small strapline of 'Holy Trinity Rocks' which is written a white, Bold colour so that it stands out and gives a fun vibe across. I've also added a website to make it look more 'real'.

i started off with a bold font on my contents page. I set it out very nicely and in my opinion it looks quite nice.

I then changed the title 'Contents' into the same font as the rest of the writing in order to make it match my style in the magazine. I have faded some images and include another strapline of, 'You know you've got it right when you go to HOLY TRINITY SCHOOL!' so that the pupils at the school think, "YES!!" in knowing that the magazine is 'bigging' them up.

How I am getting on, part 5.

I have now almost finished the front page on my magazine on Photo shop.
I changed my mind from having 4 people on my front cover and just went with one person because in my opinion it was the best choice and looks alot better.
I made a mistake in thinking that I had to write the articles on my magazine but that is in my next task instead and all I have to do in this task is to make a double page contents so I won't be writing about that in this update.
I have changed a few of my ideas on the magazine and I think that they were good decisions.
I have took my photos for my magazine and uploaded them onto my blog.
I have chosen the pictures that I am going to use and what I am not going to use and will post them onto my blog soon and they will be anitated very well and strongly.
I also changed my house style from green and blue to white and blue because as I said before, it looks better in my opinion.
I shall keep you updated on my next move.

How I am getting on, Part 4

I have just started to take pictures of my flatplan and upload it so that I can edit it on microsoft powerpoint.
I have took a picture of my front cover flat plan and my double page contents flat plan.
I am going to do just as I did with the music magazines and school magazines and go into the same amount of detail on them in just the same way, discussing the codes and conventions of them and why I chose that certain layout and font etc.
I have just started writing about what I am going to talk about in my magazine articles.
For example I shall be talking about...
Football, Netball and other sports in my sports article,
The school quior and the world wide competition that they have entered in my music article,
Famous artists in my Art article,
The email and phone number for my Agony Aunt in my Agony Aunt article,
What the school is offering such as footballs and basketballs and also make-up for the females,
My question on my competition to win £100 which is, 'What is the name of the author of the famous novel, Wuthering Heights?'
English, Maths and Science and where and how to get help if you are stuggling in any subject and,
Who will be in my pictures and what they will be posing for etc.
I shall carry on with this in part 5.
Thank you.

Social Class.

The social class that I am trying to target is pretty much anyone in the school community.
I am trying to attract all races, genders and ages within the school community.
I am doing this through the content in my magazine which in my opinion will attract any of these because I am going to use...
Mutual colours,
Fun and Interesting topics that will attract almost all of the pupils in the school,
I shall have pictures of boys and girls to attract them both,
Using the lessons such as Art, Music and Sport which will attract a large majority in the school as I found in my research and also these attract every race and gender,
and on the whole I wish to make it a fun but sophisticated magazine.

my MAGAZINE!

My magazine.
Mast head - School's Out!
Sub Heading - School is Cool!
Central Image - Two boys and two girls in a blue, red, green and purple tie which is following the school theme.
Theme Colours - Light blue and Light green which is what I found in my research is the best option.
Stories/Topics in my magazine...
Sports colomn,
Music article,
Art article,
School reward shop article,
English, Maths and Science article,
After school activities article,
Agony Aunt article.
Price - 69p
Top strip - Win £100 for answering a question in the competition.
Bar Code.
Left Third - All of the best information on sports, Art and Music on there so that it's the first thing that the pupils of the school will see first so it will interest them.
Double Page Contents - Explaining all of the things that I explained in the Front Page.

How I am getting on, part 3

Moving on, I have now put my powerpoint slides onto my blog as you can see.
I have started and completed my flat plan for the front page and my double contents page of the magazine and will soon be posting them on.
I have posted my codes and convention on a magazine on from microsoft word and i am happy with how that went.
Before posting these on I had to learn how to upload the images from my powerpoint and I got this information off of my teacher Miss Henson.
I am now moving on to completing more information on the stories and the subjects that I am having in my magazine and to analyse them in my black book.

I need to post my interviews that I have done on to my blog but before I do, I need to amplify it as it is a little bit too quite and I also need to cut out where there is uneccessary sound like doors opening etc.
I have planned who I am taking pictures of but not what pictures they are going to be in so I will keep you informed on that in my next post.
my next move will be also to take pictures for my magazine so that I know exactly how my stories have top end up to match the pictures.
That's all for now.
Magazine Codes and Conventions.

The main codes and conventions in magazines are…

A Mast Head in large bold letters to go with the magazine’s theme which is there to let you know the name of the magazine and also to let you know the type of genre of the magazine which is usually shown through the mast head.

A Central Main Image of mainly a star persona matching the social class e.g. if it’s a rap magazine then it will have a rap artist and a pop magazine will have pop artist etc and that is their to make the magazine look more interesting and the person on the image could have a fan site in which the magazine will target.

Side stories are usually all around the page on the sides, top and bottom and they also have pictures of celebrities which will also attract their specific fan sites.

The main statement is usually in ALL magazines because it is the main story of the magazine and it is in bold colours in a different font to the rest of the writing which stands out so that the target audience are attracted to it so that they buy it for the main story!

Theme/House colours which are the main colour and style through out the whole magazine and these are usually bright bold colours or calm, relaxing colours.

A Lure which is something that targets and addresses straight towards the audience which is sometimes a question e.g. Can YOU guess the greatest pop star EVER?

A Tag is something that will be on the front cover of a magazine and will over exaggerate the magazine for example, ‘the best magazine EVER!’.

A Strap-line is an introductory headline below the main headline (masthead) which is in a slightly smaller font and it gives information on a main story in the magazine
The Left Third is in every magazine because when they are put onto the shelves in the shops, only the left side of the magazine is shown and it has all of the good information on the page because that is what the reader is going to see.

· Side Pictures is when on the side of the stories on the front page, there is pictures of what are usually celebrities which gives you insight on what contents is in the magazine as well as the side stories.

My Media Powerpoint.

In this powerpoint I wrote what I know about the codes and conventions on MAGAZINES!:D

how I am getting on, part 2.

Continuing on from the last post, i have now recorded and interviewed 9 or 10 people, boys and girls and I am happy with the feed back that i got from that.
I have done my basic flat plan for the front cover of my magazine and asked people a various amount of different questions about the name of the magazine and the them colours.
My research proved that the best name of my magazine and the name that I am now using is 'School's Out!' and my theme colour is a mixture of light blue and light green.
From my interviews I found that the best subjects to talk about in my magazine is the fun lesson's such as art, sport and music.
Also 1 or 2 people mentioned that they would like to see all of the basic lessons such as english, maths and science.
I am now about to start my flat plan for my double page contents and I am also going to be posting my powerpoint slides, my codes and conventions on word and my interviews on my blog soon.
I shall keep you informed on what I am doing next in the near future.

How I am getting on.

So far in this task I have done 7 slides on microsoft powerpoint whilst going into deep analysis on 5 of them with two school magazines and 2 music magazines.

I have explained as many codes and conventions in them as I can and I am happy with my work so far.

I have also done 1 slide of a double page article from an existing school magazine and anatated it in some detail.

On the final slide i have compared 2 magazines, the music magazine 'NME' and a school magazine 'evolve' and went into quite a lot of detail on the differences and the simularities and I came to a conclusion on them which you will see in my work.

I have wrote a bit of work on microsoft word explaining some of the codes and conventions of a magazine.

I have also recorded some people whilst interviewing them on what they would prefer and like in a school magazine as part of my research. I asked them all the same questions so that there is a clear idea on what the target audience of people aged 11-16 would like to see in a school magazine. Although i have only asked people age 14-15, this is mid way through the target audience so their opinion should be pretty much the same. I have also only asked 4 girls and no boys at this point in time so i will be interviewing about 5 boys and 5 girls all together.

That is where I am at so far.

Preliminary Task

I am about to start my preliminary task in my media AS level. I've been told that I need to create a new school magazine with codes and conventions that will be suitable and appropriate for pupils of the target audineces age. To do this to the best of my ability I have to look at exsisting magazines on the market and learn from the codes and conventions. I have to put in to account of my target audience the...
Social Groups i.e. what type of background they come from,
Gender,
Age and
Ethnicity.
i am looking forward to this task because I am eager to find out more about the music and school magazines to find the codes and conventions to help me with my research.
